October 20th, 2007 is the first nationwide Pit Bull Awareness day – a day to celebrate this wonderful breed, and to set the records straight.
As a result of the negative hype surrounding both “pit bulls” and “pit bull types” (which includes but is not limited to American Pit Bull Terriers, American Staffordshire Terriers, Staffordshire Bull Terriers, Bull Terriers, American Bulldogs, and any combination or mix thereof) BlessTheBullys.com has decided that October 20th will be the first ever nationwide Pit Bull Awareness Day. This day is dedicatied solely to focus on these incredible dogs and their responsible owners, instead of on the rappers, drug dealers, and thugs that often adopt Pit Bulls as an extension of their “toughness” or to appear more “macho.”

“Its time to show the world that all pit bull owners ARE NOT alike, and that responsible pit bull owners are no longer willing to sit back and be judged by the image set by the visible minority of irresponsible owners.”
The media has already inflicted considerable damage, and it seems that everyone has forgotten that once upon a time, Pit Bulls were the house pet of choice, and labeled the “nanny dog” for good reason – their love of humans, especially children, is unmatchable in any other breed. For this reason alone, a good portion of therapy and service dogs are Pit Bulls.
In general, most folks look down on and even degrade Pit Bulls and their owners. They run in the opposite direction when presented with the opportunity to meet a Pit Bull, simply because of the negative image presented by the media, which would have us all believing that Pit Bulls are the most vicious, blood thirsty creatures on Earth. If you know a Pit Bull personally, you know this isn’t the case at all. (And if you don’t know any Pit Bulls, you’re missing out!)
